Invitation

We really wanted to bring a unique aspect into the dining space. There’s a lot that went into the concept for the piece Titled “Invitation”.

Very simply put: It’s meant to represent the work of many to please an individual.

We created Table tents to

“teach people japanese” while they wait. a comedic aspect was incorporated to make a memorable experience.

We liked the idea so much we created an instagram account with weekly posts.

japanese advertisements were the inspiration for the two paintings. As well as some simpsons commercials from the early 90’s. this was absolutely the most fun part of the project for us.

we looked at a bunch of robots and tried to make it pseudo japanese, we also added “the smallest man of rice” with two swords to help him out.

Menu design

the section title font (slightly resembling this one) is called ‘teko’ this font was created by manushi parikh and is available at adobe fonts.

Creative (but subtle) font decisions were a nod toward “Asian” style writing, the high connect on the Stroke of the ‘N’ and the flip on the Leg of the ‘R’ were the perfect accents in the “Priori Sans” font. The font was Designed by Jonathan Barnbrook. We really couldn’t be happier with it.

This font worked well for lots of reasons but a major factor was the capitalization. When handing menus off to restaurant managers you want usability to be as easy as possible; it’s a simple forward slash to separate items and a simple caps lock of the same size font for item titles and descriptions. This really helps the style to stay consistent when it goes through 5 different menu changes.

The two fonts work so well together, they should priori teko bow… sorry.

variations

The design had to work with handout menus as well as menu boards, a simple bold variation got the job done when it came to readability over distance without losing style consistency.

visit nosu ramen!

The goal was to set people up for some of the best ramen we’ve ever had. To compliment and accentuate!
